Students will write in their conversation journals at least once a week. Each student has been assigned a day to turn their conversation journal into me. I will read what they have written, respond, and return it to them the following day. We will do this weekly for the remainder of the year. The purpose of the conversation journals is for your student to practice writing and learn how to communicate through writing. It also allows me to get to know them better. Students are expected to start every journal entry with the date and write at least half a page in their neatest handwriting. Every student has their own version of neat handwriting - I just want them to try their best!
Students are expected to read every night for at least 20 minutes. Sometimes I will assign readings for students to complete and other times I will allow them to self select books. When students are self selecting, it does not matter what they are reading as long as they are reading a "good fit" book! In class we will learn how to pick a "good fit" book. Please feel free to ask me for book recommendations. To hold them accountable for their reading, they will be completing monthly book reports.
Students will be given a "Weekly Math Sheet." This sheet will be due on Friday morning. Students will need to complete concepts that they have learned in class, but they are expected to try new concepts included on the sheet. If work needs to be shown, please make sure it is attached.
