SLP word art

Welcome to my class page for Speech-Language Therapy (2019-2020)! This year's classroom theme was "Moving Full STEAM Ahead". Through literacy-based activities, students incorporated individual IEP goals to engage in conversations about Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math.

This school year, we've engaged in conversations about what 'vocabulary' means. We read a variety of books and discussed related vocabulary such as: investigate, integrate, design, and expression. When applicable, students used CORE vocabulary to showcase developing communication skills in a variety of ways.

For books and CORE vocabulary featured, check out the Newsletters section of my class page to see which books and CORE vocabulary we discussed for each month. Suggested book list is also posted in this section ending our year discussing (mathematical) representation.

If you have specific questions regarding your child's speech-language goals, feel free to contact me by email (best method) or through SchoolMessenger app/website (email me for class code and include your child's name).

  • 6/12/2020: Congratulations to another year's end! While this was not the end we envisioned, I truly enjoyed the time I was able to spend with your child this year. It was quite the adjustment for me to not be able to see them face-to-face. I have appreciated your efforts in continuing to ensure the success of your child's communication skills through our meetings together, Flipgrid videos, resources on Teams pages, emails, phone calls, virtual check-ins, and accessing resources on my class page. While I will not have virtual office hours for the summer, the rest of these resources will remain available. If you have not requested access to the Speech-Language Teams page or any other resource that will help you, it is not too late! Please email me to request. May your time home be safe and filled with meaningful conversations with one another. For those that have opted to use Flipgrid for their child, a new topic for the summer has been posted!
  • 6/9/2020: THANK YOU to all who attended my MUNCH BUNCH last Friday! We enjoyed a read aloud, two virtual field trips, language-building spinners, and a word association activity. My final office hours will be this Friday, 6/12/2020 from 8:45 AM-9:45 AM. Send me an email for an appointment. My final newsletter for the is posted in the Newsletter section of my class page. For KG-5th grade, final IEP progress reports for the school year will be sent with report cards. For PK, you should receive final IEP progress report from your child's case manager. Thank you for allowing me the pleasure to work with your child.

Have a fantastic summer!!

  • 5/28/2020: Save the Date! On Friday, 6/5/2020 from 8:30 AM - 9:30 AM, I'll be hosting a MUNCH BUNCH during my virtual office hours. Your child can bring his/her breakfast, morning snack, or just himself/herself! Your child doesn't have to stay the whole time and can drop in or out as you wish. I would love the opportunity to "see" them and say farewell. I'll have activities paced throughout the hour so there will be something for all. Please note this MUNCH BUNCH will be open to ALL my students in all grade levels. Final office hours for this school year will still be held on Friday, 6/12/2020, from 8:45-9:45 AM, as scheduled, for any end-of-the-year questions you may have.
  • 5/22/2020: As we move into the final days of BHSM, ask your child, "What words come to mind when you think of communication?" Record their answers and email/send picture of their response. Responses will be compiled to create word art to share.
